Picking up the Poo, Cleaning a Bath some Food and an Interview

Unfortunately we are nearly at the end of our Blog, but we still have one for next week luckily. (Although it will be the last).

Anyway. Now we had to go and pick up poo and clean a bath. The picking up the poo was gross we had to wear gloves and pick it up with our hands, some were squishy, fresh and smelly, some were dry,old and not smelly at all. We had to try and fill up 3 big bags, but of course we didn't (maybe it is more we could not.).

After we picked up the poo we had to clean a bath and drain it out to so we could put fresh water in. Then we got to have lunch, delicious hamburgers and the best chips, it was soooo good!! After lunch we had to interview a lady called Patricia, that's it for now.....

The Grooming

After "Starting Off" and "Meeting th Donkeys" we got to groom them. We brushed them and got a demonstration of how to clean their eyes and hooves.

Donkeys eyes have to be cleaned regularly with water and cotton wool, otherwise they will get infections.

You also have to clean their hooves with a hoof pick, or else they get leg and hoof problems.Like humans, donkeys also have to cut their nails or file their hooves. Only thing is that they have to have one specialy trained person called  a 'farrier' to file their hooves for them.

                                                                    It was cool and interesting!!

Meeting the Donkeys

 The first time we saw the donkeys they were coming through a long narrow track.Then they came through a gate, and into the paddock we were going to be in. I always thought that donkeys were always dirty and gross, but they were so beautiful, soft, clean and well looked after. (Especially since they were all abused, thats why they are at the sanctuary.)

There were different types of donkeys, fat ones, thin ones, shy ones, long hared ones and short hared ones. We got to touch most of them (the non-shy ones of corse.) they were so beautiful.

Some thing interesting that I never new is that all donkey have a cross on their back.

Starting Off



My family and I were going to stay in Montague for the weekend.We left on Friday,so on Saturday it didn't take us very long to get to the Sanctuary.For us it took about 25 minutes to get there.We were the first to arive (Mrs D's car was last).The lady who took us around was Patricia.First we went to the paddock and did funny exercises.Then we.... (Wait till next week.)



While we were wating for the others to arrive the boys played ball.
